The Simpsons is a cultural penomenon, as seen through merchandise, references to it by other media, and even Webster's Dictionary accepting words such as D'oh and Cromulent. There are few media forms that the Simpsons hasn't expanded into, having launched comic books, toys, video games, clothing, board games and much much more. There are few items that the Simpsons logo has not been slapped onto.

The reason The Simpsons is such an effective brand name is that it has become common cultural knowledge. Everyone recognizes the characters and their personalities. Few people who saw the Butterfinger ad above didn't understand who that guy was and why hehad a whole Butterfinger in his mouth. The Simpsons has made it's way into our hearts, and most feel a certain connection to the family. This is why The Simpson's is entering it's 18th season this year, with a feature length movie due this summer, and no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
