At the center of The Simpsons is the Simpson family themselves: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Santa's Little Helper and Snowball II. |
|
Homer works at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and is a generally well-meaning buffoon. Marge is a stereotypical American housewife and mother. Bart is a ten-year-old troublemaker who thinks of himself as a rebel. Lisa is an extremely intelligent eight-year old middle child who is often involved in left-wing activism and loves playing the saxophone. Maggie is a baby who, for the most part, simply sucks on a pacifier and doesn't speak. The family has a dog (Santa's Little Helper) and cat (Snowball II). |

Springfield has a wide array of inhabitants who regularly receive screen time as well, such as members of the Simpsons extended family, neighbours, the staff and students of Springfield elementary, the local police and mayor, Krusty the Clown and his cast, the Power Plant and it's employees and the local convenience store owner Apu and his family. The Simpsons is famous for introducing a new character or pet in an epdisode or even in only one scene and then never showing them again. Sometimes these characters are referenced, but rarely. |
